My husband and I run together 3-4 times a week. We take our 18-month-old daughter along in a jogging stroller and, for the most part, she enjoys our 30-minute runs. She loves the sound of our feet pounding the cement, the rhythm of our voices as we talk, the dogs barking, and the wind blowing. At least, I imagine that she does - she can't quite tell us all of that yet. ![]()
Because we "brave the elements" outside so often, we want to be sure that we are protecting our daughter from the sun and wind efficiently.
One way we do this is by having our Little Beauty wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection (well, when she will keep them on, that is). ![]()
MyFirstShades™ offers sunglasses for little ones from newborn to age 7. All of their glasses feature 100% UV protection, impact resistant lenses, and a wrap style design. Plus, they're waterproof and Rx capable (a vision care professional can fit all styles of MyFirstShades™ sunglasses with prescription lenses).
MyFirstShades™ reports that, "Research today confirms that sun damage to our eyes occurs at an early age - damage that may not show up until we are much older." They go on to say that, "According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants and children under ten years of age, may be at increased risk for retinal injury because their eyes, specifically the lenses, are not fully developed and allow for greater penetration of harmful UV rays."
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also declares that sunglasses should be worn whenever a child is in the sun long enough to get a sunburn or tan.
MyFirstShades™ is launching a new website on March 19th, 2008. You will be able to buy shades on-line and also search for a retailer near you. Stay tuned!
